EFT, what is it and what it is for?

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a gentle mind-body approach that helps release disturbing emotions, reduce stress, and transform difficult emotional reactions.

It is based on a unique combination:

🌿 Physical Stimulation

By tapping with the fingertips on specific points located on the face and upper body — points associated with acupuncture meridians — we send calming signals to the nervous system.

🗣️ Guided Verbal Processing

While tapping, you are invited to put specific words to what you are feeling, thinking, or experiencing. This conscious verbal focus activates the emotion or situation that is present, allowing it to be processed in a safer and more regulated way.

✨ This alliance between body and words lies at the heart of EFT.
It supports real emotional and physiological change — especially in situations where talking alone may not be enough.

How does it work?

When stress, fear, or a difficult emotion is triggered, the brain — particularly the amygdala — can remain stuck in a state of alarm. Tapping helps signal to the nervous system that the danger is not present, which may reduce stress activation.

Research suggests that methods based on EFT can significantly reduce anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, and improve overall emotional regulation (Feinstein, 2021).

What can EFT help with?

EFT can be used to:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Soothe intense emotional reactions

  • Overcome fears, blocks, or limiting beliefs

  • Improve daily emotional regulation

  • Strengthen self-confidence

  • Support the processing of trauma, sadness, irritability, or anger

It is gentle, non-invasive, and suitable for all ages.

Why is this approach powerful?

Unlike approaches that focus solely on thoughts or conversation, EFT integrates the body into the process of change.

By physically stimulating acupressure points while verbally exploring what feels difficult, the nervous system can recalibrate more effectively.

It is increasingly used by psychologists, counsellors, and coaches, particularly because of the speed at which improvements are often observed — even in complex cases.

Who created EFT?

EFT was developed in the 1990s by Gary Craig.
It draws on principles from acupuncture, energy psychology, and behavioral sciences.

Who is it for?

Whether you wish to:

✨ Ease daily stress
✨ Move beyond long-standing fears or blocks
✨ Feel more at ease with your emotions
✨ Transform your relationship with yourself or others

EFT can be a valuable tool to support greater inner freedom and emotional wellbeing.

Going deeper, when needed

Beyond stress relief, EFT allows us to explore the emotional roots of a difficulty.

In advanced work, we may gently work with:

  • Different parts of yourself (inner conflicts, self-sabotage, inner pressure or criticism)

  • Inner child experiences and early emotional memories

  • Metaphors and symbolic imagery that facilitate integration

  • Recurring relational patterns

These approaches are informed by current knowledge in trauma psychology, attachment theory, and nervous system regulation. They allow for deeper, more precise work, always at a pace that feels safe and respectful.

The science behind "tapping"

The Science of Tapping is short documentary film dedicated to demystifying tapping and increasing acceptance of this powerful tool.

It seems that EFT affects the amygdala, the stress centre in the brain, and the hippocampus, the memory centre. S)mula)on of the tapping points is thought to send a signal to the limbic or emo)on centre and to reduce its arousal.
